SURESCRIPTS AND PROXYMED PARTNER TO PROMOTE ADOPTION OF ELECTRONIC PRESCRIBING SERVICES
Partnership will advance prescribing adoption in FL and TX,
Accelerate integration and learning
Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Alexandria, Virginia (Business Wire) October 14, 2002 – ProxyMed, Inc. (Nasdaq: PILL), a leading provider of physician healthcare transaction processing services, and SureScript Systems, Inc., a company dedicated to enhancing patient care and medical practice by linking physicians directly to the nation’s 55,000 independent and chain pharmacies, announced today the signing of a collaborative agreement to sponsor and provide electronic prescribing services. The companies have also agreed to interconnect their networks so that physicians and pharmacies on both networks have seamless and direct access to each other.
The sponsorship program formed by the agreement will enroll up to 3,000 physicians in Florida and Texas to use PreScribe, ProxyMed’s Internet based electronic prescribing applications. SureScripts will pay the first year’s subscription fees for all physicians enrolled in the program. This program is one of a series of Learning Lab initiatives being run by SureScripts to collect market analysis data and to document operational efficiencies resulting from the use of e-prescribing by physicians and community pharmacies. ProxyMed is connected to major pharmacy chains such as Walgreens, Eckerd, and supermarket pharmacy Publix, as well as to a number of independent pharmacies through a partnership with QS/1 Data Systems. In addition, ProxyMed recently announced an e-prescribing connectivity agreement with national pharmacy chain, Rite Aid. SureScripts will begin providing connectivity to additional independent and chain pharmacies later this year.
“We are committed to collaborations that advance provider-centric electronic prescribing that directly connects those who provide health care,” said Kevin Hutchinson, CEO of SureScripts. “SureScript’s initiative with ProxyMed will enhance the breadth, depth and overall quality of consultation between pharmacists and physicians by allowing physicians using the PreScribe product to reach more of America’s pharmacies through the SureScripts network.”
“ProxyMed welcomes SureScripts as a partner,” said Jack Guinan, EVP Prescription Services of ProxyMed. “We have a common vision of driving widespread adoption of physician-to-pharmacy connectivity. In these early stages of adoption collaboration is extremely important in getting the participation of a larger number of physicians and community pharmacies.”
