| Zix Corporation Selected by University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey for Email Protection DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 15, 2005--
Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), a global provider of secure e-messaging, e-prescribing, and e-transaction applications and services, today announced that the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), the nation's largest public university of health sciences, selected ZixCorp's ZixVPM(R) (Virtual Private Messenger) service for system-wide communications protection. The university signed a three-year contract for 8,000 users to meet the secure email mandates of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) by the April deadline. ZixVPM will encrypt email messages to protect both inbound and outbound communications and includes a HIPAA lexicon that automatically recognizes Protected Health Information (PHI) to ensure compliance and confidentiality. "After reviewing several vendors, we were impressed not only with ZixCorp's strong presence in the state and among our affiliates, but also with the technology itself," said Dr. Les Michelson, director of academic computing services for UMDNJ. "ZixVPM had everything we were looking for: transparency to the end user; the ability to scale; and total integration with our current systems." The university has four main campuses comprising eight schools: UMDNJ's New Jersey Medical School, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, School of Osteopathic Medicine, New Jersey Dental School, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Health Related Professions, School of Nursing, and School of Public Health. There are more than 11,000 full-time faculty and staff, and 4,500 students in 38 degree and certificate programs. "We're proud that yet another nationally prominent healthcare institution has chosen ZixVPM to protect its email communication," said Rick Spurr, acting CEO, president and chief operating officer for ZixCorp. "Our leadership in the Northeast continues to grow, primarily from word-of-mouth. These customer references, based upon the effectiveness and ease of use of our technology, are the key to our productivity and continue to accelerate our growth." ZixCorp is a leading provider of secure email services with more than 20 New Jersey healthcare systems customers. Other ZixVPM users from the state include: Robert Wood Johnson Health Network, Hunterdon Healthcare System, Atlantic Health System, QualCare Inc., Solaris Health Systems, and Shore Memorial Hospital.
