Work-related Internet use is increasing among physicians in Europe and the
US. The importance of online health information is growing in importance for
physicians. In Europe, physician Internet use is most common outside of
working hours. However, in the US, physicians are more inclined to use the
Internet during patient visits and are making greater use of the available
eHealth tools. While searching for health information online is an established
practice among physicians, pharmaceutical companies must ensure the
information they provide is user-friendly for physicians who have limited
time.
A large proportion of physicians are unhappy with the high number of
mistakes made during the prescribing process and believe that ePrescribing may
be able to help resolve this problem. Physicians in the US are most keen with
73% of the surveyed US physicians willing to use ePrescribing tools in the
future.
More than half of the surveyed physicians would also like to use
eDetailing tools in the future. The most desired format is interactive
websites while the use of handheld devices in eDetailing is not popular. US
physicians are the most keen for change with 43% stating that they would like
eDetails to replace live details completely.
This analysis identifies the large growth potential for online tools.
