Healthvision, a health information technology company, signed a contract with an upstate New York regional health information exchange.

The newly formed Adirondack Regional Community Health Information Exchange in upstate New York will deploy Healthvision's Electronic Health Records, including electronic prescribing, referral management and secure patient communications.

The companies announced the alliance, which will allow physicians to share patients' health information, Thursday. Healthvision boasts the most widely used web-based infrastructure for healthcare. e-healthSOURCE, hosts more than 8.5 million unique patient records for more than 350 organizations.

Health Information Exchange of New York, a not-for-profit group for health information technologies, awarded a $250,000 grant to help fund the project. U.S. Representative John Sweeney (R-NY) helped secure the funds and is sponsoring legislation to establish a $25 million grant to help hospitals and nursing homes across the country to implement computer technologies.
